Continental Collabos

This year has seen more African collabos among different artists as music really crossed over East met West & South…South met West…It created magical fusions;Cocktails of the best kind.Below are 5 tracks that joint two or more acts for our listening pleasure.

HELLO-LayLizzy(Mozambique) × AKA(South Africa)

LOVE YOU TIRE-Mayorkun(NG) × Mr. Eazi(GH)

BLACK BILL GATES-MI Abaga(NG) × Khaligraph(KE)

SPECIAL FI MI-AKA(SA) × Patoranking(NG)

MOVIE STAR-Mi Casa(SA) × Eddy Kenzo(UG)

Breakthrough African Acts 2016

2016 has brought us incredible new acts…Hard to pick the top 5 new stars for this year but here are 5 picks that personally I feel have changed the game

Rayvanny(TZ)

Tanzania has really evolved music wise the last two years or so from their biggest shows being EA based now their stars grace the biggest world stages. One particular artiste is Raymond popularly known as Rayvanny.

His first track “Kwetu” became an instant hit and he didn’t stop their keen not to shine under label boss and mentor Diamond Platnumz…Rayvanny has earned his own bragging rights as one of East African finest in just three tracks:Kwetu,Natafuta Kiki & Salome.

Dremo

Signed under Davido’s DMW,Dremo has had a superb year…The rapper whose signature style is fast almost violent rap verses has been a revelation to many afro hip hop fans and is bound for greatness if he keeps up the pace.

Some of his amazing tracks include Ojere,1 2 Bang,Back 2 Back & Ole(with LAX).

Emtee

Head honcho of Ambitiouz Records has had an unbelievable year that brought numerous awards,A platinum certified album & undoubtedly the biggest track of 2016.

The proud father of one has had it all. With hits like Roll up,Pearl Thusi,We Up & Kuze Kuse

Mr Eazi

Oh Lawd…”Saga dat”.Well hit back to back to back to back how many track has Mr. Eazi had this year I mean he was in almost everything.

Just tune in to MTV Base and I assure you after every two hours you’ll have you some Eazi Music better yet take my phone and search Mr Eazi you’ll have you Eazi Magic. With tracks like Annointing,Holl up,Skintight,Sorry(afro urban remix),Ohema,Sample you and many more its been a huge year for Mr Eazi.

Nasty C

Man he’s almost in everthing I try talk about when it comes to music and that right there is an achievement.Nasty has been game-changing…Find an African rapper that won’t praise him and I’ll label him “Jelly”-Jealous & shaken by the  mention of his name *Damn I’m good*.Let the track do the talking.
Other acts like Mayorkun,Harmonize,Yanga,A Reece,Gigi Lamayne😍 & FiFi Cooper have had incredible breakthrough in 2016.

African Albums of the Year 2016

So this list will contain 10 of the best put out projects from Africa EPs,Mixtapes & LPs.

10.Don’t Consume If Seal Is Broken-Wangechi

The best project from the East side and definately the most unique album in this list in terms of production style and genre.

I did an extensive review on it and to listen and download it check it here👇👇

9.DaKar II-Kwesta

This Hiphop cum Kwaito album by SA rapper Kwesta that is English & isiZulu presented was the third studio album by one of the most consistent Afro hiphop acts.

This double disc album released under Sony music had incredible guests like Yanga,Tellaman,Kid X,AKA,Cassper and was produced by  some of the best producers in the game like DJ Maphorisa & Tweezy to mention a few.

It had super hits like Nomayini, award winning Ng’ud & my personal favorite Day One.

8.The Playmaker-Phyno

One of the rappers that sticks to his rapping roots is Phyno famous for spitting verses in his indigenous Igbo language and he delivered in fashionable style in this 20 track album with love, ego, highlife, women and haters  being some of the topics on this Fayaaa project.

With a star studded guest list featuring Burna Boy,MI,Mr Eazi,Olamide etc this album brought joints like Link up,Fada Fada🔥🔥,Personal favorited Ezege & PinoPino.

Jos To The World – Ice Prince

Well coming off his previous album “Fire of Zamani” which i felt was a little below average…My favorite African rapper Henry Panshak Zamani aka Ice Prince did exceptionally amazing on this project.

Like the name suggests this Jos-born rapper was showcasing his origins to the world. This was also the first time he worked away from his label and home for many years Chocolate Music group & released the album under his label Super Cool Cats.Tracks to hear include Boss,Me vs Me,No mind dem & my favorite Trillions.

6.Mama Africa-Yemi Alade

We had to have some African Queen appeal on the list and this deserves the spot.Mama Africa:The diary of an African woman is the second studio album by the King of Queens Yemi Alade. From love songs to turn up anthems it had it all and whoa the Nigerian even had songs in Swahili this year.

The album had bits from every side of Africa with features by Sarkodie,Dj Arafat & Sauti Sol.Yemi cheers to embracing the African Woman.

5.Avery-eMTee

Ok first lemme put something straight this here deserves a top 3 spot just that it was released end last year.Go to my most played songs you’ll have 3 tracks of this album Roll up,Mama,Winning.

Named after his son Avery who’s on the cover art *I learnt the name meant King or a Leader* this album has made eMTee an award winning rapper. With guests like FiFi Cooper,AKA & Wizkid the album went platinum mid this year.

4.Stories That Touched-Falz

He acts; He’s a comedian, lawyer & well he raps.I still can’t differentiate between the comedian & rapper in Falz because his videos are the best.

His sophomore album gave stories in each track like the name suggests. The relationship between him & the problem kid Sess made the album better *40 & Drake* & the guests also brought their A game I mean s/out to Simi especially.

The album rotates in his Yoru-english & Pidgin signature style.Man you have to get you this album…like serious dawg.

3.Son Of Mercy-Davido

His first Sony Music project was SOM and this 5 track EP sees Davido experiment different sounds but still remains the Omo Baba Olowo we loved. What he said earlier will see this be a double EP…when we’ll get the second part we don’t know but if the first is anything to go by the second we’ll definately be smoking.

With guests like Tinashe,Simi & Nasty C Davido still brought he’s solo A game on Gbagbe Oshi.My favorite still remains “the coolest kids in Africa” with Nasty.

2.God Over Everything-Patoranking

From “Girlie O” to “No kissing” really Patoranking has had huge success and on GOE he attributes all this to God.

GOE made its way into the Billboard reggae/dancehall charts and that’s some major isht on your debut album.Though Pato My woman My everything shoulda been in that album😒.The guest list was star studded with the likes of Wizkid,Olamide & Phyno putting up a show.Tracks like This Kinda Luv,Cheating Zone & No kissing are my must hears on this incredible album.

1.Bad Hair-Nasty C

What am I going to say about this kiddo that I’m yet to say…Pheeew lemme try:Ok Nasty C has probably had the best come up story *Sorry Nyovest* I mean who raps as good as he does:

“Y’all need a good M*F***er,

And I’m great for that part,

Cause I bumped into hiphop

when she had her legs apart”

Goes his verse on the single “Bang Out”.Released free on audiomack because of an unfinished track it went up the charts & even after it was released commercially on iTunes it sored to number one in just 15 minutes.

The album has a home feeling for two guest acts Erick Rush & Tellaman and my favorites on this had to be 25,Phases,Hell Naw & Good girls;Snapchat H**s.

“It’s bad hair season,n**ga f**k with it”
