The Esir Lane African Freshman List 2017

What’s litty fam…??

I’m back again two days in a row and this here is an all important list we all know XXL’s annual Freshman list well today I decided to bless the world with an African version of it that is also a prediction of some of the new acts expected to turn up the heat in 2017.

Last year we had the likes of YCee,Nasty C,RayVanny,Tekno,eMTee and others tear up the charts all being fresh to the game.Trus me this year will be no different and new acts will basically dominate again.

I managed to pick 7 artistes that I personally tip the to go for glory in 2017.

Phy has come along way from the time she graced the Maisha Magic Superstar TV series which she was eventually crowned as the winner.Phy has gone to record two projects “PHYLOSOPHY” and the recent reaaaaaaalllyyyy amazing esir-lane certified EP “BIOGRAPHY”-which is a fantastic collection of refixed covers to some of  the best tracks we grew up listening to.

Phy is showing no signs of stopping and if BiograPHY is anything to go by this will be the year the world welcomes a star in PHY.

Du Boiz

Mabala Noise signed Du Boiz is already making waves this year after releasing two incredibly amazing tracks Hallelujah which features AKA and Dope Dream which is graced by US rapper TYGA.I first heard off Du Boiz on SA hip hop show LiveAmp when he performed his hit song Celebration and been keeping tabs on this young king.

On a scene that is super competitive I believe Du Boiz has what it takes to reach the AKA or Cassper level and this year might just be his year judging from the fire he’s already breathing into the game.

Mr Eazi

Ghanian act Mr Eazi is gearing up to release his mixtape “Accra to Lagos” this year and fam this is probably the hottest African artiste at the moment and I feel his going to tear up the charts in 2017 he has had a fair portion of smash hits in 2016 but I feel like he has more to deliver and if you don’t know of him now you do.

His hit song of the moment “leg over” is setting the tone in UK and has topped BBC 1Extra’s top 5 African song charts in a few weeks now.I just can’t wait for the mixtape and as usual expect an in depth of that project as soon as it drops.

Tellaman is an all round artiste that is one thing I love about this dude. One factor that I loved about Bad Hair(Nasty C’s album) is the fact that he had TellaMan on 3 off the tracks and boy did he slay it.His verse on 25 is amazing.

This guy has incredible vocals and he’s a guest feature on a lot of hiphop tracks in SA but in his own right he is an incredible artiste.TellaMan will most definitely be a chart topper in 2017 and to back that up he already as an infectious track out with same goon on deck Nasty C titled “Come Over”-I love this track. His last project Mind VS Heart is still a favorite on my playlist.

Dice Ailes

This Chocolate City talented rapper has been growing year after year and I really enjoy his flow with tracks. He had incredible tracks last year but I feel he still needs a lot exposure this year and he probably got that after he stole the moment when he featured on Ice Prince’s Brokelyn track off the J2TW album. His fantasy track remix with Iyanya was another incredible joint.

Watch out for Mr Miyagi in 2017.

A Reece

Well last year A Reece was at his best if not for the fact that Nasty C and eMTee stole the spotlight (in a nice way though) A Reece would have been one of the hottest emcees last year matter of fact he was at a comfortable position in my end of year top 10 afro hip hop list-check here TOP 10 AFRO-HIPHOP ACTS OF 2016

His EP “Paradise” was an incredible put out project with hits like Mgani,Uber,Zimbali and many more.2017 is definitely his year in terms of SA Hiphop. He still has a way to develop especially perforn=mance wise but the boy is doing things well so far.

Babes Wodumo

Now this dance/electronic queen hailing from SA has really stolen my heart. The energy she brings in her songs you don’t know the words but you just find yourself getting down. Her track “Wololo” featuring DJ Mampintsha was SA’s biggest track last year apart from Roll Up and Juice Back.It got a remix with D’Banj too.

The Wololo dance is a craze and trust me I can wololo too.Y’all need to check out that video.End of last year Babes Wodumo under her label West Ink released an album titled Gqom Queen vol 1 and carried another hit and personal favorite “get-me-in-the-turn-up-mood-track” titled Mercedes.

This is a legend in the making and 2017 she cements that crown as her own.OH and did I mention TIMEliveSA crowned her sexiest woman in South Africa for 2016

Let’s Ride!!!
